 Barr-al-Jissah resort is a five-star resort in Sultanate of Oman. It has several cottages for customers to reserve and it offers several facilities to the customers. Cottages will have a unique number, way number, type, capacity and rental price. Once a customer visits the resort and reserves at least one cottage, the Customer Relation Officer will record the details of the customer such as name, contact number, residence ID number, which is unique to every customer, and address. A cottage can be reserved by more than one customer on different dates or may not be reserved. When a customer reserved a cottage/s, the start date and end date will be recorded to prevent clashes of reservations and a unique reservation number will be assigned for this transaction. The resort also offers different facilities such as tour assistance, Airport transportation, town car services, swimming pool, etc. to all their customers. Each facility has unique code,name and price. A facility may be acquired by one or more customers, which will be assigned to an attender

who will render the facility. A customer may or may not acquire any of the facilities which will be assigned to

an attender. An attender has an id, name, position, department name and salary. Whenever a customer

acquires a facility which will be rendered by an attender, the resort wishes to record the date and time that

the facility was provided to the customer. An Attender may render any number of facilities or may not render.a facility to any customer.

 

Task 1:

Construct the Entity Relationship Diagram (ERD) for the above given scenario. Identify all the entities,

attributes of each entity including primary key, not null, relationship between the entities and cardinality

constraints. State any assumptions necessary to support your design.

 

Task 2:

a. Write the SQL statements to create all the relations/tables identified in task 1. Include different table

constraints (e.g. primary key, foreign key, not null, integrity constraints, etc.). For doing this, you have to

refer and follow the steps in transforming your ERD into relations which were discussed in Chapter 4 of

the prescribed textbook ((Jeffrey A. Hoffer, V. Ramesh & Heikki Topi. Modern Database Management.

10th ed. Prentice Hall, 2011.) on pages 165-178. (3 marks)

b. Write SQL statement to Insert at least 5 records for each table created above. (1 mark)

c. Write at least two SQL statements having “subqueries” based on the tables created above to demonstrate

the concept of “subquery”. (1 mark)

d. Write at least two SQL statements having “joins” based on the tables created above to demonstrate the

concept of “Join”. (1 mark
