Your task is to analyze any one of the following problem statements:

a. A university student registration system is to be changed. At present, the system is unable manage the high volume of telephone calls received at registration time. An online student registration system needs to be developed.
b. A campus bookstore wants to improve handling of textbook orders. Right now, the orders are placed on a paper form from instructors, the information is copied by a clerk, and purchase orders are generated and sent to the publishers. An automated system is to be developed.
c. A campus cafeteria needs to be improved. Employees presently spend an average of 60 minutes per day going to the cafeteria to select, purchase, and eat lunch. It would be better if a new system is developed.
You have to investigate any one of the problem statements by visiting a similar existing scenario; assess the problems with the existing system, then come up with recommendations for the improved system. After the information gathering, explain the pattern of the system in action. You can make your own assumptions also.
Based on your study and the assumptions made, you have to answer the following questions:
1. Identify the inputs, outputs and process of the current system.

2. Describe the various sub systems, information flow and interfaces.
(3 marks)
3. Identify different end users of the system along with their responsibilities.
(3 marks)
4. Suggest your recommendations for the improved system.
(3 marks)
5. Justify the point that the recommended new system will improve the existing system. (6 marks)

Task 2:

Search ads for jobs related to systems analysis. You can look in for the following job titles:
• Business Analyst
• Information System Analyst
• Project Consultant/Co-ordinator
• System Developer/Engineer
• IT Professional
• Data Processing Consultant
• Project Leader
Compare these to the roles of a system analyst you learnt in the module. Explore on the description of required skills and job description of a system analyst. You can gather relevant information from internet sites, text books, magazines, newspapers etc.
1. Based on your study, synthesize your own ad. You need to attach the referred ad along with your answer. (newspaper cutting if newspaper ad, printscreen if taken from internet, copy of the ad if taken from magazine or textbook)
