Archive Mode

hii brothers0p
to change my database status from no archive mode to archive mode
i must do many following steps

but when i try to update log_archive_dest_one parameter to made merror for my archive i fail it give me error(log_Archive_dest_1 cant be paresed)

i execute the comand
sql > alter system set log_archive_dest_1='my dir'

please provide me the the right following steps i treid many times with no luck
